Idea Numero One

This is one of my first idea. I have got inspiration from Julian Vallee's Danse Dance : http://www.jvallee.com/dansedance.html
I think this idea would work perfectly projected behind the bands playing in The Hubs.

Above you can see the general idea. The projection centres around an interactive table, this could be created in After Effects. The basic idea is to have an interactive table with a person stood behind to represent a conductor. They have complete control over the elements of the table.

Elements of the table are based on the word Alight. I want to record someone saying Alight and have that as an element in the piece, I have taken inspiration from the Manchester City shirt for this. The sound waves could also turn into the actual work Alight. The sound waves can be rotated and flipped meaning that they will have to be 3D.

The table revolves around the idea of young bands and will feature moving podiums with band members. The podiums and stands are interactive, moving up and down and rotating.

The conductor whether it be male or female will be dressed in a smart jacket and will be holding a conductors 'stick' which will allow the conductor to use the stick to write in the air. This also applies to the conductors hand also, this can also draw items into the interactive space.

This drawing shows the podiums movement. Up & Down & Rotating.

Draw up using a tablet.

Alight Testers

Here I have done a bit of playing around with the word Alight, trying to make it feel as modern and contemporary as possible. I want a young feel to be portrayed by my final projection so I have created this to try and see how I can use the word Alight in a youthful way.

Band Inspiration

Part of the Alight Festival is held at The Hubs where local secondary schools will be competing in a 'battle of the bands' style competition. The main audience will be family and friends of the band members and I also imagine that there will be a few students there. I want to create a piece of projection footage to be used at this part of the event, I want to create a modern feel to the projection. Below are a few images to help inspire me.

A Few Colour Samples

Here I have just sat down with a pack of oil pastels and a pack of markers and tried to use colour to express the word ALIGHT.

More Inspiring Participatory Design

Julian Vallee

I absolutely love the work of Julian Vallee, his piece Danse Dance can be seen at the link above.
I really like the idea of having a table with interesting activities happening around the table top.

I really like the idea behind this concept for participatory design. I like the idea of posting notes around the city and seeing the responses and interactions from the general public.

Participants are invited to create a drawing that is woven into a collective tribute to Johnny Cash, set to
his song "Ain't No Grave." The project was inspired by the song's central lyric, "ain't no grave gonna hold
my body down," and represents Cash's continued existence, even after his death, through his music
and his fans. The work continues to grow and evolve as more people participate.

Inspirational Imagery

I want to get a feel of what the word ALIGHT could stand for, below are some images that I think relate to the word:

Participatory Design

We have recently had a really interesting workshop which was all about designs that get other people involved. We worked as a group to create a really interesting piece. We were given A, L, I, G, H, T letters and told to do a small piece of design, photograph it and then pass it on. The photos were then going to be compiled by Matt into a piece of motion footage.
There was a lot of images taken which have been uploaded to Flickr, but I have included one of the letters development on here to show how it changed.

I have uploaded a quick video here. Due to some strange reason its made them really stretched

All the files for all the letters can be seen here:

Good examples of participatory design could be the Manchester City football kit.

"For the new shirt, we wanted to combine the elements of football and sound in a new and original way. We went into the stadium to record a section of the fans singing Blue Moon and from this recording, we extracted an audio clip and created a soundwave graphic which is used within the shirt. One of the most powerful ways in which any fan can positively influence a football match is through sound. We’ve harnessed that and made it part of the Manchester City home kit."

By getting the fans involved and making the sound waves part of the design, it makes them feel included within the football team.
